Evangelistic Experiences

We recently had an evangelist ask whether we could have a blog posting on evangelistic experiences.  We would LOVE for you to share some great stories with us.  Even tonight after a service I was able to talk to the young man at the front desk of the hotel we’re staying in and see whether he really had a relationship with Jesus Christ.  It’s really pretty incredible (and humbling) to see how God orchestrates situations to allow opportunities to share the gospel.  So take a second and share some ways that God has used you to help people reconnect with God!

  1. I recently had a conversation with a pastor about evangelism “styles.” He aksed me if I could share the gospel with people, without saying a word to them. I aksed him in what context, walking down the street silently? This type of question he asked I realized was a popular based on immiturity. It is credited to St. Francis of Assisi, “Preach the Gospel at all times, and if necessary use words.” That is like saying feed starving children, if necessary use food. He shared that he would let his light shine on his job while working construction, and wait for guys to ask him what was different about him. I asked, what would happen if a guy died while you were waiting. He replied what are the chances of that actually happening? I said, well 10 out of 10 die, and tomorrow is promised to no one, life is like a vaopr we are here to day gone tomorrow. Every day 150,000 die in the USA alone. I had a neighbor that grew up Jewish/Catholic. The first time we spoke the conversation was quick, on the fly exchanging names, etc…. The next time we spoke, I shared the whole counsel of God with her. I had the priviledge of asking her where she thought she would go when she died, to which she replied heaven? I asked, why would you go there? She responded with the ever popular response that she was a good person. I asked her if I could give her the good person test to see if that was true. She replied, “OK”. I asked her if she ever lied, had stolen anything ever in her entire life, and if she took God’s name in vain even once in her life. She claimed that she had done these things. I told her that we just went through 3 of the 10 Commandments, and had not even looked at the other 7. When I asked what do you call someone who lies, and steals, she said, “a liar and a thief” I replied, and taking God’s name in vain was called blaspheme, stomping on the name of the God that created her life, a very serious offense to God. I asked according to what you shared, and I appreaciate your honesty, you are a liar, a thief and a blasphemer and have to face a holy God on Judgement Day. If God were to judge you based on His 10 Commandments would you be innocent or guilty, and she responsed guilty. I asked would you go to Heaven or Hell when you die if you are guilty. She said, “Hell.” I asked her if that concerned her, because it concerned me, and God. I was able to share with her what God did for her so she wouldn’t have to spend eternity in Hell. She listened, but that day she wasn’t convinced, at least unbeknown to me, that she needed Christ to pay for the Law of God that she broke, and needed to repent and trust the Savior.

Not to long afterward, I found out she died. I don’t know if she ever repented of her sin, but thank God that I was faithful to share, and left the rest him God’s hand as He actually does the saving of souls. What are the chances a neighbor, a barber, a co-worker, a waitress, a loved one and or family member may die without the Savior, it’s very great if they are living without Him now. I hope my story encouraged you and challenged you as a witness for Christ to talk to people straight about thier sin, and their need for a Savior. Don’t dance around sin be direct like Jesus (John 4). The worst thing that can happen to you is that you will be rejected. The worst thing that can happen to them, is that they die and go to Hell. Who has it worse! Seek and Save the lost like Jesus did, people are dying to hear. Fisher’s of men go to the fish, they don’t wait for the fish to jump into the boat. Who did you speak to today about the Savior?

    Until the nets are filled…
